Today is a day to be direct with my language...

Even though I am usually surrounded by people who speak the same language, there is still often misunderstanding.  I will make every effort to choose my words carefully so as not to reduce this from my side of the conversations. I can only do so much however; the rest is up to listener. It is their job to listen through to the end with intent and try and refrain from jumping to conclusions. When it is my turn to listen, I will try and do the same. If I am not sure I understand it is ok to ask questions.

I cannot count the number of times in my life I have gotten to the bottom of conflict with someone only to discover that is started with a misunderstand of something I or they said a long time ago. I have also coached people who are still carrying a burden they picked up years ago as a result of something said to them in childhood. We use language like water sometimes as it just effortlessly flows from us often without realizing it powers to carve deep canyons or destroy landscapes.

The flip side of this is to try and remember Don Miguel Ruiz’s words, “Don’t take anything personally. Nothing others do is because of you, what others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering”.

My intention for today is to be an intentional communicator, I ‘ll try it for a day and then another and hopefully it will become a permanent thing. That is how we change one day a time.
