Today is a day to dust off some old skills I haven’t used in a while…
My husband and kids remember a time when I was quite domestic (as I call It). We were living off the tip of Alaskan panhandle in a remote community. I baked bread every day, made my own noodles, tortillas shells, huckleberry jam and helped my husband gather and chop enough firewood for the winter. Life then was slower and more relaxed. I find myself yearning to use those skills as I find ways to occupy my mind and save money. There is a comfort in doing these tasks a familiarity and a reminder of a time when entertainment meant getting together to can food, have 40 people barbecues in our back yard and playing cards in the evening while children played in the yard until it was time to come in to watch a vhs movie or play Nintendo until bed. Money was not always abundant then, however we had everything we needed and we learned a variety of skills that will see us through whatever is to come. I know that I can move forward with my tribe of family and friends into whatever tomorrow looks like with grace and ease.
Love and light
